Fraser Connell was born in 1961 in North Lincolnshire and identifies as a gay man. His father was from Scotland and his mother was the daughter of a farmer from Nottinghamshire. His parents later moved to North Lincolnshire where Fraser was born. Fraser is the youngest of three boys. His middle brother, who died a few years ago, was also gay. Fraser moved to Haringey in the 1980s and was very involved in activist work. He worked in the borough between November 1983 to March 1985, then again in January 1987 to August 1988, living in Haringey all that time. He then went to San Francisco and came back in 1989, living in Tottenham for a short while until he moved to West London where he lives now.
